The comedian, who has faced his fair share of hardships both personally and publicly, stressed the value of asking for support and assistance rather than suppressing one's feelings.
Funny Face—real name Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng—discussed in an exclusive Showbiz 360 interview with TV3's Giovani Caleb that holding back on emotions when faced with hardships or life's challenges causes more harm than good and ultimately leads people to their graves. He also urged people to seek out professional help as needed from friends, family, or other support systems while facing challenges in their life.
Funny Face has made his own path through mental health concerns and personal challenges very public, and he has utilized his experiences to advocate for self-care and mental health. In Ghana, the stigma attached to mental health issues has decreased as a result of his story-telling and advocacy for candid discussions.
Are you aware of the struggles that people face and their inability to speak up? It is the reason of deaths. Talk to someone about everything you go through. Speak with someone when you are experiencing something you don't understand. I didn't open up to anyone when it happened to me. About three years ago, things started to get worse because I continued holding everything inside. I would have benefited if I had confided in someone, Funny said.
