Famous for his viral hit song "One Corner," Ghanaian musician Patapaa Amisty recently alluded to the notion that Charterhouse, the company that organizes the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), is under a heavenly curse.
"After what they did to me, I clearly see that God has cursed the VGMA organizers. I don't want to travel very far," he stated in the interview.
Patapaa did not elaborate on the situation, but he made it clear that in this sense, being under a curse meant having to pay a price for causing harm to another person. He maintained his conviction but declined to provide more details.
Patapaa used the Amakye Dede controversy as an example throughout the conversation to bolster his assertion. He claims that even though Amakye Dede was unprepared to appoint Kuami Eugene as his successor, he was forced to do so.
"I don't want to say anything, but I would want to use Amakye Dede's situation as an example. When Amakye Dede wasn't prepared, they had him crown someone," Patapaa continued.
The song "One Corner" by Patapaa gained popularity in 2018 and spread beyond Ghanaian listeners. Patapaa was disappointed not to win the VGMA, even though he was nominated among well-known performers like Ebony, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Joe Mettle, and Captain Planet.
In the wake of the VGMA defeat, Patapaa publicly attacked the awards committee, claiming they had taken bribes to give honor to musicians who didn't deserve it. He vowed not to accept any VGMA nominations in the future as a result of his annoyance.
