In the Sunday, June 19, 2023, premiere of her biography "I am not Yvonne Nelson" at Peduase Lodge, the actress disclosed that, following a brief romance, she had aborted a pregnancy for Ghanaian musician Michael Owusu Addo, better known by his stage name, Sarkodie, in 2010.
She said that she decided to terminate the pregnancy as a result of Sarkodie's refusal to accept parental responsibility.
In Chapter Eight of her new book, Yvonne Nelson describes the occurrence on pages 88–95. She claims that Sarkodie and his manager at the time went with her to a clinic at Mamprobi so that the foetus could be removed. That came after an unsuccessful effort using medicines that a buddy had suggested.
She wrote in the book that she went to see Sarkodie, who was still living with his mother, at Tema.
This passage in the chapter says: "When I gave the news to him, I could feel the depth of his feelings. His heart was thumping, and when he managed to find his words, he stammered. Nonetheless, his message was quite clear. Not that he desired the pregnancy. It would be detrimental to him and his career. Eliminating it was the only choice."
Ghanaians have expressed their opinions about Yvonne's pregnancy and abortion on social media.
