Charterhouse: Amakye Dede was not coerced into naming Kuami Eugene the "King of Highlife."

The VGMA's organizers, Charterhouse Production Ltd., have refuted Amakye Dede's recent allegations that he was forced to declare Kuami Eugene the next king of Ghanaian highlife at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Robert Klah, the head of Charterhouse's public events and communications, said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on June 15 that the organization had no involvement in planning the crowning session in reaction to Amakye Dede's statement.
"We didn't plan any coronation ceremonies. Therefore, I'm not quite sure how to respond to the claim that event planners are accountable.

He stressed that although they give artists and their teams a stage on which to display their skill and originality at the VGMA, the event planners have no direct influence over the specifics of the ceremony.
"We work with a team... so, you give them an opportunity, they create what they want to do... the only thing is that you want to ensure that whatever they are going to present is not distasteful, so they get there and perform their act, and you move on."
On June 14, 2023, Amakye Dede of the Asaase Breakfast Show disclosed that he was compelled to crowned Kwami Eugene the "King of Highlife."
"Even though I did that, it was against my will. I was made to crown Kuami Eugene by force."
According to Amakye Dede, at first he even tried to hand the crown he had been given to someone else, refusing to take part in the ceremony. Nevertheless, he ultimately found himself forced to perform the coronation against his choice.
